Figure 2: Identifying the users goal structure is fundamental
for developing the cognitive walkthrough process. The task sequences
that do not provide for an easy transition from the subgoals, "and-then"
structures, and actions are problematic. It is these problems that
the CW attempts to identify, and based on what the user is thought to possess
in their background knowledge, the problems can be either regarded as being
experienced by the vast majority of users or only a small proportion.
This allows the CW analysts to determine the severity of the problem and
greatly influences their interpretation of the results.
