Abstract
Groper is an interactive computer graphics language that allows an artist to define pictures as a collection of straight lines and other pictures. A picture can be used as a subpicture of other pictures, as well as a subpicture of itself. This idea is called recursion, and it allows for many unusual pictures to be easily drawn.
This tutorial guide to Groper was design with a Learn by Doing philosophy. It steps the learner through basic "getting started" exercises, and leads one through the creation of simple and increasingly more complex drawings. On the way, the learner will discover the rich command set of groper and how they can be applied.
